【Research Highlights】
- Achievement of Strong and Highly Sensitive Mechanoluminescence: By controlling the material's structural defects, strong and highly sensitive mechanoluminescence was achieved in zinc oxide (ZnO) without using any rare-earth elements.
- Exceptional Sensitivity to Weak Forces: The material exhibits extremely high sensitivity compared to traditional materials, emitting bright light even under a weak force roughly produced by a light fingertip touch.
- Near-Infrared Light Emission for Biomedical and Infrastructure Applications: The emitted light is in the near-infrared region, which can easily penetrate biological tissue; this opens the door to promising applications such as medical sensors that read internal information using ultrasound, and infrastructure monitoring technologies that visualize strain in bridges without dedicated power supplies.
